Only Have 10 Minutes? Try These 3 Christian Journal Prompts - Paper & Purpose

Some mornings, I wake up later than I intended and only have 10–20 minutes to spend in the Word. On days like these, I simply don't have time for a full journaling session, Bible reading, and extended prayer time.

But I still believe there is something powerful about starting the day with a quiet moment and intentionally connecting with the Lord.

Whether you have a few free minutes first thing in the morning, while sitting in your car, or during your lunch break, you can use these three simple journal prompts to help center your heart and focus your thoughts on the Lord.

1. Cast Your Cares

In one sentence of honesty, unload the thoughts that are weighing on you and intentionally cast your cares on the Lord.

2. Grateful For

Write down one thing you are grateful for. What can you thank the Lord for today?

3. Prayers

Finally, write out a prayer or prayer request for the day.

Cast Your Cares

What does it mean to “cast your cares”? It can be anything and everything that is weighing on your mind.

What is troubling you? Write it down.

What nagging thought keeps coming back? Write it down.

What are you worried about today? Give it to God.

The “Cast Your Cares” prompt comes from 1 Peter 5:7:

“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”

The beautiful thing about the Lord is that our issues and problems are never too much for Him. Nothing we bring to Him is too small, too messy, or too overwhelming. He cares for us—perfectly and deeply.

Grateful For

1 Thessalonians 5:18 says:

“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”

Gratitude is a fundamental way we can align our hearts with the will of God.

Even in life's difficulties, there is always something good we can recognize and thank the Lord for. The simple practice of writing down what you're grateful for can help retrain your mind to see the good—to recognize God's abundance, provision, and favor, even in the middle of difficult circumstances.

Prayers

You can begin by praying about the things you wrote down in the “Cast Your Cares” prompt. But prayer is simply talking with the Lord.

Although He already knows our thoughts, worries, needs, and joys, He still desires a relationship and conversation with His children.

Matthew 7:7 says:

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

Bring your requests to Him. Talk to Him honestly. Invite Him into your day.

You Don't Need Hours to Connect With God

Of course, there is something beautiful about spending extended, uninterrupted time in God's presence. But the reality is that some days are busier than others.

And on those days, don't let the idea that you don't have enough time keep you from spending any time with Him at all.

Ten intentional minutes with the Lord is still time spent with the Lord.

Sometimes, transformation begins with something as simple as pausing long enough to surrender your worries, recognize your blessings, and bring your heart before God.

That is part of the heart behind the Be Transformed Journal.

The journal was created to help you intentionally make space for God and renew your mind through His Word—even when life feels busy. With prompts like Cast Your Cares, Grateful For, and Prayers, you can use whatever time you have to pause, reflect, and reconnect with Him.

Because transformation doesn't always happen in long, uninterrupted hours of quiet time. Often, it happens through small, consistent moments of intentionally turning our hearts and minds toward God.

You don't need a perfect routine to pursue a deeper relationship with God.

You simply need a willing heart.

So whether you have an hour, twenty minutes, or just a few quiet moments, start there.

Open your heart. Spend time with Him. Let Him meet you where you are.

Because even the smallest moments spent seeking Him can be part of a life—and a mind—being transformed.
